Patient Support Services

The focus of our patient support services is to alleviate the obstacles patients encounter when seeking treatment and enhance their quality of life during the process. Support services will vary, potentially including options like covering parking fees, offering complimentary accommodations through local organizations such as Family House, and helping with out-of-pocket expenses for wellness services that are often excluded from insurance coverage but are essential for many patients' well-being.

Family House

Family House opened on November 13, 1983, to provide a safe, affordable “home away from home” for patients and families visiting Pittsburgh hospitals. Offering low room rates, complimentary breakfasts, and transportation, it plays a crucial role in healthcare, supporting those traveling long distances and enhancing the overall patient experience. In late 2023 Libby’s Lungs dedicated funds for lung cancer patients and families being treated at Hillman Cancer Center. For families with demonstrated financial need, Libby’s Lungs underwrites the costs associated with staying at Family House. Through December 2024, Libby’s Lungs has underwritten 26 nights of lodging.

Complimentary Parking

 On August 1, 2024, and October 20, 2024, we offered free parking for all UPMC Hillman Cancer Center patients in honor of World Lung Cancer Day and Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Over 700 patients benefited from the parking vouchers.
